Earlier this month, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools proudly honored its retirees during the Legacy of Service celebration, an annual event recognizing the lasting impact of employees who have dedicated their careers to serving the district’s students and families.

The event brought together colleagues, district leaders and loved ones to celebrate a collective legacy built over decades of commitment, compassion and excellence. From classrooms and cafeterias to offices and operations, each retiree has played an essential role in shaping the success of CMS and ensuring students have access to endless possibilities.

Superintendent Dr. Crystal Hill and district leadership extended their sincere gratitude, noting that the strength of CMS is rooted in the people who serve with purpose each day – and whose influence continues long after they step into retirement.

“You have been the steady presence behind so many student successes – the reassuring voice, the encouraging smile, the problem-solver, the advocate,” said Dr. Hill. “The lessons you taught, the relationships you built, and the care you showed will continue to ripple forward for generations. That is a legacy that truly lasts.”

Board Vice Chair Gregory “Dee” Rankin shared, “Wherever this journey leads you, I hope you carry this with you: you have truly changed lives.”

While retirement marks the close of a remarkable chapter, it also represents the beginning of new opportunities. CMS thanks each retiree for their unwavering dedication and wishes them continued success, joy and fulfillment in the years ahead.
